“Deaf people are the same as hearing people.”

This message of inclusion is one of the many ways that 34-year-old Sara embodies the spirit of the holiday season. Here’s her story and how you can be the difference.

“Every year, I look forward to holiday traditions, like time with my family, holiday movies, and carols,” says Sara. Sights and sounds that make warm memories and build anticipation for all that’s to come.

“I was born Deaf.” This means that holiday movies are played with Closed Captioning (CC) – text displayed on a television screen – and carols are signed in Sara’s first language, American Sign Language (ASL).

“I love caroling, Santa, and baking,” she says. “My specialized support team helps me make the holidays special and fun.”

Your support means that we can help people, like Sara, fully enjoy the holidays.

Our team provides communication support that is essential for her to feel included and valued in every aspect of her day-to-day life.

You can inspire endless possibilities with a gift this holiday season.

“Every year, I look forward to gathering with family at my Mom’s house,” says Sara. This includes one of her favourite holiday pastimes… Getting gifts for all of her loved ones.

“Sara is a big gift giver… We hear more about what she wants to buy or make for others than anything else in the lead up to the holidays. Some people like to receive gifts, but Sara truly loves to give them,” says April, who supports Sara.

For Sara, the holidays are a time to give. Your gift inspires independence and inclusion.

“By making a donation this holiday season, you are helping people like me live their best lives every day,” says Sara through April.

Will you embrace the spirit of the season, like Sara? Make your donation today.

“It makes the difference,”
